St Theresa Emukhuwa Secondary Girls School was started in March 2007 as a
community based project. At that time the school
had an enrolment of 16 students and is housed in one of the classrooms in
Emukhuwa Primary School. This has
resulted in overcrowding and a lack of facilities for the primary school.
In 2009 The original students have reached the equivalent of Year 9 and the re
are two other classes below them, yet these girls are still housed at Emukhuwa
Primary School.

The school was started to cater for the rising
population of the girl-child who do not attain a secondary education due to the
financial constraints in the community.
The school also will assist the many orphaned and needy pupils whose
families have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
The school will enable the disadvantaged girl-child to compete favourably
with the boy-child.

St Theresa Emukhuwa Secondary Girls School has had great support from friends
and wellwishers of KISUNYA Self Help Welfare.
This has enabled our girls to get uniforms, a few resource materials and
to be able to pay the volunteer teachers at the school.
Currently, Kisunya-Australia is working towards raising the money required to
buy the land on which St Theresa's can be built.

Currently the school lacks virtually everything that can make the education of
these girls realistic and meaningful. For
example, the school lacks room for expansion, sufficiently resourced classrooms,
toilets, a library, a science laboratory and basic furniture.
